Open any new publication and you are sure to find a reference on Carbon Footprint and its damage to the earth. From melting of the polar ice regions to the altering weather conditions, it shows the amount of damage done by the humans to the environment. A Carbon Footprint is the amount of greenhouse gases (GHG) produced by human activities, measured in tons of carbon dioxide or GHG’s. It is measured for any individual, organization or event in tons of CO2 per year. The main causes of Carbon Footprint are industries, automobiles and even electronic goods you use every day at home.
You can reduce the impact of this by using eco-friendly products and use less electricity, water and gas. Recycling is one of the best ways of reducing Carbon Footprint. For example, when you use a recycled item, you are reducing the carbon emission as recycling a product produces less carbon when compared to manufacturing.
carbon footprint management
Developed countries like America, UK produce high amount of Carbon Footprint than developing countries like India, China etc. An average North American generates about 20 tons of CO2 emissions every year and this is five times greater than the amount of CO2 generated by an average Indian. India is currently in the 145th position in Carbon Footprint emission but researches show that it may triple in the next 20 years. This is because of increased population, industries and automobiles.

You can reduce this effect by doing simple changes in your everyday life and make your contribution in protecting the environment.
Change your thermostat-You can decrease your thermostat by two degrees and reduce the carbon emissions by 2000 pounds! This slight change can reduce the effect of global warming more than you think. During the cold months turn the thermostat down by two degrees.
Adjust your water heater-Most water heaters in households are set to 140 degree Fahrenheit whereas most household needs can be met after setting this to 120 degree Fahrenheit or even lower. This makes your house even safer as you use the water to shower or to wash dishes with temperature usually 100 to 110 degree Fahrenheit. Any hotter than this might risk burning yourself! You won’t even notice any difference after making this change but this will reduce the carbon emission by 500 lbs.
Run your Dishwasher full-The energy used by a dish washer to clean the dishes and finally dry emits lot of carbon dioxide. So next time try to use your dishwasher with full load. This reduces the carbon emission by 200 pounds!

Plant trees- Planting trees is another best way of reducing the Carbon Footprint. Trees take in the carbon from the atmosphere and release oxygen which is called as photosynthesis. So the more trees you plant, the more you reduce the carbon!
By following these simple steps, you can help protect this environment and you can also save your money as you reduce the usage of energy.
