How to Lose Weight With The Paleo Diet

A lot of research has been done over the last few years into what is making people more and more obese. Doctors and scientists used to think that it was a simple matter of people eating too many calories and fat and so gaining weight. But recent findings show that although this seems logical it is almost entirely wrong with the result that many people have seen their weight yo-yo or they find it hard to lose weight at all. It turns out that eating fat doesn't make people put on weight, it's eating sugar (in all it's hidden forms) and too many carbohydrates.

Now many people are following the paleo diet which is also called the stone age, palaeolithic, primal, caveman or low carbohydrate diet (though it's different to the atkins diet). To put it simply it consists of trying to eat like our stone age ancestors used to, or as closely as we can. The theory is that we evolved over millions of years to eat what we could hunt and gather and what we could find would be optimally nutritious for us. The problem is that we still have the stone age genes but are living completely different kinds of lives. We eat lots of sugar including hi-fructose corn syrup (it's in almost every processed food), too many carbohydrates in the form of breads and potatoes, too much salt and too much vegetable oils. These are all ingredients that palaeolithic people did not have access to.

In order to lose fat you need to try and mimic what ancient people ate before the agricultural revolution, meat, eggs, nuts, seafood, fresh fruit and vegetables. Avoid all wheat, flower, dairy products, rice and potatoes (you can eat sweet potatoes). Many people have found that their weight drops off effortlessly while those looking to gain muscle find their testosterone rising and so their ability to grow muscle become easier.

One of the other reasons that people switch to the paleo diet is because it gets rid of so many of the other health issues they have, removing dairy clears up their skin, getting rid of wheat and gluten helps people with IBS. The list goes on and on.

If you feel overwhelmed by all the conflicting information about food and nutrition I highly suggest you take a look at the Paleo Diet. It is the diet that humans naturally evolved to survive and thrive one. I've written a free introductory guide book about the Paleo Diet which you can get from my site.
