Certain rules when it comes to hanging pictures can be learned after years of experience. Do not hang pictures in all of the walls unless you've always yearned to live in an art gallery so keep in mind that hanging a picture on the wall is ideal when the wall seems bare without one. For pictures, you can hang them over a sofa, in groups, over a server, a small pier table, or a console.

Then there is another rule. When furniture is under it then do not make the groupings wider than this. Hanging pictures closer to one another gives them this unified look even if they are of varying sizes. You may be one who has a prized collection of bird prints with different frames in kind and size. Instead of hanging them frame by frame consider pleasing geometrics.

Then there is another rule. Pictures may be hung close together but the wall as a frame serves to set off a group of pictures on all four sides. The concept of pleasing geometry pertains to arranging pictures to form a square or even a rectangle. It is possible that you have four pictures all framed alike and of the same size you may want hang them geometrically in a square over the sofa, or in a straight line over a long table, or vertically above a small step table. In the absence of a staircase do not resort to the step pattern when hanging pictures. Still the best option would be to consider right angles and go for straight lines. This is a time when a little regimentation is all you need.

Let's say you have a group of pictures of various sizes and subjects, a lifetime accumulation of ever changing favorites that includes old family portraits, prints, reproductions, originals. When it comes to hanging these together framing and matting everything alike would make everything unified. Other than use simple gold frames for 16 prints one friend matted then in forest green. Setting them against a red wall resulted in a sensational look. Resorting to a different color for matting each picture over her sofa a friend added color. For the pictures here they were of the same size as well as of the same subject.

Could you have experienced staring into a department store model room only to find it to be missing something? No signs show that someone had ever slept, ate, lived, and took phone calls in that particular room. That indefinable something called individuality. This should be in your home.

A department store model is necessary in order for furniture to be sold but in your home you are provided with comfort and pleasure. You can never go wrong with your favorite color. Remember that the color you select can affect the mood in the room. Emotions can be expressed in varying colors. Color charts can really help you out when you are looking for just the right color for your space. The choice that matters here is the one you make personally.
