The Sony Ericsson Xperia range has seen several variations to its design in a relatively short space of time. Originally released as the Xperia X10 which in itself is an impressive handset, we then saw the Xperia X10 Mini. This saw the aforementioned handset return in a more compact design. Now, the Xperia X10 Mini Pro is due for release very shortly. This sees the addition of a full Qwerty keyboard to the Xperia X10 Mini.

Measuring just 90x52x17mm and weighing only 120 grams the handset is certainly compact and lightweight. TFT capacitive touch screen technology offers an interactive means of navigation of the Android 1.6 user interface, whilst a full Qwerty keyboard allows efficient text entry. Within the 2.55 inch screen, 16 million colours are displayed at 240x320 pixels for optimum display quality. Standard features one would expect from a smart phone are included such as a scratch resistant surface and accelerometer sensor for auto-rotate.

By utilizing MP3 music files as ringtones, customisation of the handset is possible so users can hear their favourite song every time the phone rings. This function works in conjunction to alert of incoming messages or calls. For talking hands free, a speakerphone is installed along with 3.5mm audio jack.

Class 10 EDGE & GPRS keep the phone connected on the move, whilst HSDPA and HSUPA is available in areas covered by 3G. Wi-Fi connectivity means that the signal given off by wireless internet routers can be used to great effect for gaining a faster internet connection. Bluetooth allows users to share files with other phones, whilst a micro USB (v2.0) connection provides a means of hooking up the phone to a computer to carry out tasks such as transfer and back up media files and contact info. GPS with A-GPS support allows certain applications to function based on the location of the handset.

On the subject of media files, a range of music and video file formats are accommodated by the media player. These include music files in: MP3, eAAC+, WMA and WAV, along with video files in: MP4, H.263, H.264 and WMV. A selection of games and stereo FM radio player add to the entertainment options found in the phone.

Media files and other data can be stored internally in the standard 128MB, or thanks to a micro SD slot (with pre-installed 2GB memory card) up to 16 GB can be made available by installing a larger memory card.

A 5MP camera (2560x1920) offers a means to take excellent quality digital photographs, and the task is simplified thanks to the inclusion of useful features such as autofocus and LED flash. VGA quality video can also be shot by the camera, and this is at a rate of 30 frames per second.
