With mobile phone technology currently at a peak, it seems that several manufacturers are concentrating on cramming a variety of features into compact handset. Sony Ericsson is certainly no exception with the XPERIA X10 Mini.

This versatile handset includes key features such as fast internet access, 5 MP digital camera and touch screen navigation.

As the name suggests, the XPERIA X10 is a small handset measuring just 83x50x16mm, and weighs just 88 grams, making it a pleasure to hold and use on the move. The compact handset is finished in a glossy black colour scheme with tasteful silver buttons at the base of the screen.

Internal memory is in the form of 128 MB for storage of music tracks and video clips etc. A micro SD slot is provided with a pre-installed 2GB memory card, although this can be increased to 16 GB simply by installing a larger memory card. The internal phonebook can store a vast number of entries and fields, and includes Photocall, where a photo is assigned to a contact. This is then displayed on the screen whenever that person is in contact.

Users are alerted to incoming calls and messages via the vibration and ringing with the option to utilise MP3 music files as ringtones allowing users to customise their handset and hear their favourite song whenever the phone rings. Handsfree communication is made possible thanks to the inclusion of a speakerphone system, and a 3.5mm audio jack.

The 2.55 inch TFT capacitive touch screen can display up to 16 million colours within 240x320 pixels for excellent quality of on screen content display. The screen features an accelerometer sensor and is manufactured from scratch resistant materials protecting it from everyday wear and tear.

The XPERIA X10 Mini features a built in digital camera with 5 mega pixels (2560x1920 pixel resolution) for taking very good quality still images and video. Autofocus and LED flash make the task of taking quality stills a breeze, and also features the geo-tagging facility. Video is shot in VGA quality at 30 fps and includes a video light for low lighting conditions.

Most common file formats of video and music files are supported by the built in media player, so the handset doubles up as an effective portable media player. Google and YouTube can be directly accessed through dedicated applications, and a stereo FM radio player adds to the entertainment factor.

Connection to the internet is achieved primarily through 3G thanks to a HSDPA connection. However, a faster internet connection can be gained whenever a signal from a wireless internet router is detected, thanks to Wi-Fi connectivity. Class 10 GPRS and class 10 EDGE provide connection to cellular networks.

The XPERIA X10 is available in a range of colours, so it appeals to the style conscious mobile phone user as well as technology buffs.
