With its recent release, there has been a good deal of hype about the HTC Legend. It is easy to see why, given its impressive specification list. Its key features include touch screen technology, Wi-Fi, 5 megapixel camera, and it is one of the first handsets to be released with the renowned v2.1 Android operating system.

Users are alerted to incoming calls and messages via vibration and ringing, and the HTC Legend offers the ability to utilise MP3 and WAV music files as ringtones. Should users wish to communicate handsfree, a speakerphone system is installed as is a 3.5mm audio jack which accommodates handsfree headsets.

The HTC Legend is equipped with an internal phonebook which can store a practically unlimited number of entries and fields. The phonebook also utilises the useful photocall feature. Internal memory is 384 MB RAM and 512 MB ROM. As many users will like to store an entire digital music collection on their phone, a micro SD slot is provided. This can accommodate a memory card of up to a whopping 32 GB.

The HTC Legend handset measures 112x56.3x11.5mm and weighs just 126 grams. Its light weight and reasonably slim profile make it a pleasure to hold and use on the go. The styling is simple yet sophisticated, with tasteful silver trim surrounding the touchscreen. The 3.2 inch AMOLED capacitive touch screen offers great quality content display thanks to the ability to display 16 million colours within 320x480 pixels. As an alternative method of navigation, the Legend also features an optical trackpad, similar to that found on several Blackberry models.

A long list of additional features and applications suggests just how functional the HTC Legend is on a day to day basis. A versatile music and video player, document viewer, organiser and voice memo recorder are all included, along with applications allowing direct access to Google and YouTube.

The built in camera boasts 5 mega pixels (2592x1944 pixels) allowing high quality still photographs to be taken. It features LED flash and autofocus making the task of taking photos simple. As an alternative method of image capture, the camera can also shoot video.

The HTC Legend relies on a variety of connectivity features to stay connected to the internet as well as cellular networks. In areas covered by 3G, HSDPA is available at speeds of up to 7.2 megabytes per second, along with HSUPA at 2 Mbps. A faster internet connection can be obtained thanks to Wi-Fi connectivity. Class 10 EDGE and class 10 GPRS take care of connections to cellular networks in areas with little or no 3G coverage.

Its comprehensive spec list and sleek aluminium body offer everything one could want from a modern Smartphone. With releases like this, it will be interesting to see what HTC come up with next.
