The Blackberry 9700 Bold is a phone which is in the typical mould of a Blackberry handset. A no nonsense design, which offers an impressively colourful screen and a full QWERTY keyboard on the front face. Released in November 2009 this handset measures 109 mm x 60 mm wide and is 14 mm thick whilst being 122 g in weight. As with all Blackberries, connectivity is the key as well as simplicity of use, both of which are evident within this handset features.


This phone comes with a multitude of connectivity options which include GPRS, EDGE, Blue tooth and microUSB. In addition for internet access the handset provides HSDPA and Wi Fi capabilities, which means that the alternative of utilising its own connection or logging onto nationally available hotspots is available. Satellite navigation is provided by the GPS function, which comes with A-GPS support and Blackberry maps.


The handsets touch screen is dominated by both, a 2.44 inch TFT display screen and a full QWERTY keyboard as well as a touch sensitive optical track pad. The screen is able to display 65,000 colours at a pixel resolution of 480 x 360 pixels, this ensures the imagery displayed is vibrant and is displayed with excellent clarity. The handset comes with a speakerphone for hands-free communication and a 3.5 mm audio jack.


The Blackberry 9700 Bold comes with a 3.15 mega pixel camera, which is an excellent snapshot camera that operates at 2048 x 1536 pixels and also includes auto focus, image stabilisation as well as an LED flash for illumination of the subject matter. In conjunction with its static image capabilities, the camera also provides the ability to record and playback video, as an alternative. The handset comes with internal memory of 256 MB, although some packages already include a 2 GB card which can be utilised within the microSD card slot provided. For further memory expansion up to 16 GB, the aforementioned card slot can be utilised with corresponding cards.


The Blackberry Storm2 is in many ways similar to the Blackberry storm2. Both offer superb levels of functionality as well as simplistic design and ease of use. The handset utilises a 624 MHz processor as well as the Blackberry operating system, which is version 5. In addition a document editor, MP3/MP4 player, organiser and a voice memo facility are all provided.
