Konkona Sen Sharma: The Actress With Versatility And Sensitivity

Konkona Sen Sharma is one of the finest actresses in Indian film industry and has enacted different kinds of roles in the movie industry. While referring to Konkona Sen Sharma, one should keep in mind that she is not the conventional Bollywood actress who has just bagged a few films to her credit. She has a National Award to her credit and has performed well in both art and commercial movies. Her sensitivity in acting has made her an established actor in the stream of parallel cinema.

Konkona Sen Sharma is the daughter of journalist Mukul Sharma and director and actor Aparna Sen. She entered the world of films through the film Indira,when she was very young. In 2000, she acted in a Bengali suspense movie titled Ek Je Aachhe Kanya, her first film.

Enacting the character of a mother belonging to South India in the film, Mr and Mrs Iyer, Konkona Sen Sharma became popular in the national level. Her portrayal of the role of a journalist in Page 3 was very well appreciated by the cinemagoers. After this movie, she worked in many movies and has also received appreciation on her acting talent. Her acting in Omkara and Life In A Metro, won her consecutive Filmfare Awards in the category, Best Supporting Actress.

She established herself as a versatile actress through movies like 15 Park Avenue and Traffic Signal. In the former film portrayed the character of a Schizophrenic and in the second, she played the role of a prostitute. Under commercial movies, she appeared in 2 films of Yash Raj Films. She also wore the director's cap with Naamkoron, a short 18-minute film in Bengali. This film was shown at the Kala Ghoda Film Festival.

Konkona Sen Sharma has worked with Mira Nair in a project called 8, for How Can It Be?, a short movie. She has also acted in the English movie, The President Is Coming. She was acclaimed for portraying the main role with Farhan Akhtar, in the movie Luck By Chance. Her move into comedy roles saw her enacting in movies such as Wake Up Sid and Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge.

She has starred for the first time onstage in the play The Blue Mug, in which she performs with Vinay Pathak, Rajat Kapoor, Sheeba Chadha and husband Ranvir Shorey. She was seen to be anchoring in the National Geographic Channel in a show My Brilliant Brain. Film lovers can see her graceful and elegant enactment on screen in her new films Jackpot, Mirch and Sunglasses.
