Eggs have always been a choice of food for many since it is rich in protein and vitamins and very healthy; eggs can be cooked in many forms scrambled, raw, as omelet, poached or boiled. The best way to have a wholesome breakfast is to have eggs alongside, milk a toast or perhaps a sandwich. The easiest and healthiest way to cook eggs is by boiling them however most of us do not know how exactly it is done and tend to overcook them or half-cook them. Other ways of making egg adds oil and other elements to it. Here are a few steps to boiling the perfect egg.

1. Take the number of eggs you intend to boil, wash them carefully and place in a saucepan.
2. Pour cold water in to the saucepan so as to cover the eggs and remain about an inch above the eggs.
3. Once you know that the eggs are secured in the saucepan and the water is at the required level; place the saucepan over the stove at medium heat.
4. Wait until the water in the saucepan begins to boil; when you find that the eggs are moving around in the boiling water; reduce the heat to low and cover the lid of the saucepan.

5. If you want soft-boiled eggs make sure you turn off the stove after 2 to 3 minutes.
6. Let the eggs cook for 10 to 15 minutes if you want hard boiled eggs.
7. Once the time is up; remove each egg with a spoon or a ladle and place them in cold water so that the shell hardens and the eggs cool. If you are in a hurry to cool the eggs; run them under a tap of cold water.

A few things to remember when boiling your eggs: Hard Boiled eggs can make very good deviled eggs and egg salads or even egg sandwiches. If you see a greenish ring around the yolk of the eggs, it means that you have over-cooked them; though this will not alter the taste, the protein quality could suffer a bit. Eggs turn greenish-gray because of the sulfur and iron content in them; hence this is not a cause for worry. Eggs are good for growing children; as an apple a day will keep the doctor away; an egg a day will keep health problems at bay.
