We all know that golf requires great sense of balance and steadiness. Famous coach Bob Torrance firmly believes that one’s legs are of great importance in swing. He even said humorously that “even though you have the strong hands as the strong mariner, it’s useless if you don’t have the powerful legs as Olive.” But a week ago, Santos has broken this superstition, wining a lot of applause in the European tour Hassan ii Cup.
In fact, Santos has been famous long before this. As early as October 2009, he had drawn a lot of attention in the Dunhill Links championship. This one-legged golf player had shocked the whole golf world. People never imagined that a disabled man could play golf, let alone to play it in such skilled way.
As everyone could guessed, Santos had experienced something really awful. Santos was once a very excellent baseball player. He played baseball since he was a child and wanted to be a professional player when he made an effort to join United States MBL and before that he had already signed with Toronto Blue Jays. His future seemed very bright.

But an accident changed all this. When Santos was 18, he, riding a motor, collided with a car. After he came to life, he found his left leg was cut off.
He had totally lost interest in life out of the disaster and moved to Paris with his wife afterwards. But he changed his attitude when he saw the film of back to glory. He was tremendously touched by this golf-based movie and went straight to a driving range the day after, throwing away his artificial limb.
He achieved 220 yard with his forth swing, which shocked the staff of the range. The owner told him that he may hit as many balls as he like. Once again they were out of expectations when Santos could hit 2000 balls one day. This went day by day until he went to the battle in 2004.
That competition turned him to a professional player. With one leg, he began to attend many senior events.
His struggle is a touching story. He persists in doing 100 sit-ups everyday to strengthen his muscles. With crutches, he walks with two golf bags in hand. Even today, he will kick at least 200 balls a day. Strong belief with athletic figure, he survived the aftermath of the accident and embraced success in the end.
