An overview of the LG GT540

LG are soon to release their third android smartphone, the GT540. The handset itself has a very stylish finish, but has enough features and technology behind the scenes to appeal to the more tech savvy amongst us.

The GT540 features a large 3" TFT touch screen with a resolution of 320 x 480 pixels. The display of the unit is clear and shows a good range of colours, and will automatically rotate when the phone is tilted due to the built in accelerometer sensor. The majority of the front of the handset is taken up by the screen, with the major function keys located below. Upon release the phone will be available in three finishes, Black, White and Pink.

Acknowledging the huge trend in social networking sites, LG have equipped the GT 540 to perform well in this area. All major sites are easily accessible, including Twitter, Facebook and Bebo, allowing users to quickly and easily update any information. As you would expect from a Google android phone, the GT540 encompasses the full range of Google mobile services as well, GMail, Google maps etc. The overall user interface of the handset is fully customisable, allowing users to create their own themes and add their own colours to widgets, making this phone fun to use as well as attractive.

The camera function of the LG GT540 is a 3 million pixel affair incorporating an autofocus facility. Although this doesn't sound hugely impressive, it is more than capable of handling simple photography as well as MMS, e mailing and internet uploads. The handset also supports video recording.

The importance of the transfer of files such as photographs and audio is of a high priority for many modern mobile phone owners. LG have acknowledged this point by including a Micro USB and Bluetooth on this handset. A micro SD card slot gives users the opportunity to expand the memory capabilities of the phone up to 32GB, ideal for those wanting to store video and lots of audio files. As of yet LG haven't released any information on the exact size or battery life of the handset, but in keeping with previous designs expect it to be similar to similar smartphones such as the Google Nexus One and the Palm Pre

LG have given us a lot to look forward to with the release of the GT540. Although it is the design that immediately catches the eyes, there is enough technology packed in to satisfy most users. Personally, I would suggest that the GT540 is a perfect handset for newcomers to the smartphone market, and the colour options and social networking facilities will appeal to a younger audience as well.
