Simon Cowell, Cheryl Cole, Dannii Minogue and Louis Walsh put themselves in the hot seats once more as dozens of wannabes warbled away for an opportunity to be on this year's show.

Host Dermot O'Leary was there for the action too, together with Xtra Factor presenter Holly Willoughby - and two thousand members of the public to make up the live audience.

The auditions were all held at London's XCel Centre - just down the road from Mirror.co.uk's showbiz Towers.

we are shocked we could not hear some of the screeching from up here, really....

The show kicks off at the end of the summer.
Harmony Hood thought they were out of the contest but were told on monday they had now made it through to the judges houses stage of the TV talent show.
The group - made from 2 girls and two boys - were granted a reprieve after a female trio were disqualified.

The devastated girls were told they were being axed after it appeared one had spread falsehoods about her age and was just 15. X Factor rules stipulate contestants must be 16 or over. Harmony Hood will now jet to Tuscany with judge Louis Walsh and five other bands later this month. Sources claimed they thought they were to going to discover who their coach was but instead were told they were getting the boot.

'One of them was just 15 and had lied on her application form which was a significant break of the guidelines.

'Although the entry age was dropped to fourteen last year a decision was taken this was too inexperienced and was put back up to 16.
'We are on the lookout for a correct pop star or band who can handle the pressure.'

The film crew then headed up to Coventry where they broke the good news to thrilled Harmony Hood.

On their website, the band claimed they had been described by the X Factor team as'raw talent'. They are made from YaniQue, Charlie, Abbee and Toke'n. * The new series of X Factor starts on ITV1 at 7pm on Sat..

Cheryl Cole should have lots of sympathy for the subsequent heap of X Factor hopeful - she is's about to face the judges herself.
Simon Cowell is giving Cheryl the chance to showcase her debut solo single on the hit ITV talent contest.
The 26-year-old is still in talks with show bosses about her first public performance without the remainder of Girls out loud. But her advisers think she should go for it. And if she is's put off by fears of facing the rage ( and sniping ) of the judging panel she will rest easy. Simon, Louis Walsh and Dannii Minogue all support her venture.
Cheryl's friends say she is excited but frightened about the chance of singing in front of the team and a live studio audience - although that is's precisely how she earned her place in Girls aloud.

A source tells us [*CO]'It is an obvious choice for Cheryl to launch her solo career on the show. When she told Simon her album was due out the month after next, he said she must do the show.
'Girls aloud performed last year when their single Promise was in the charts.

'She is twitchy because she'll be performing for her peers - and there is always the fear that Simon may say something catty.
Cheryl can do no incorrect in his eyes and he would not need to humiliate her.

'It's a secure environment for her debut and they'll want her to look outstanding.'

Cheryl herself has said [*CO]'I understand how the competitors are feeling - particularly when they are singing in front of us.
