Why There Will be Glee at the White House

The cast of Fox's musical comedy will soon be making an appearance at the White House for the 2010 White House Egg Roll. Apparently, the Obamas are also huge fans of the series along with many Americans. Both Barack Obama's wife Michele Obama and his daughters Malia and Sasha Obama are into the musical comedy and fall under the fan term of 'Gleek'.

The White House Easter Egg Roll has been going on as an annual event for over one hundred years. It was started in 1878 and besides a few occasional cancelations due to a World War or bad weather. Some were beginning to wonder if it would even be held this year because of the horrible storms that have pounded the D.C. area this winter. In order for the hunt to occur there cannot be any snow on the grass. As long as it was not currently snowing during the event it could be continued because it is possible to clear the snow before the hunt occurs.

Many members of the Glee cast were guests at the World Series games as they sang the National Anthem. It has been suggested that these stars may be asked to sing it once more due to the excellent job that was done. The Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, and Fergie have previously been present at the yearly Easter Egg Roll.

Glee has an estimated 8 million fans during its weekly showing on Wednesday nights. Many joke that it is possible he would gain more support if he proclaimed himself as a Gleek. 8 million people is quite the fan base and he might even end up liking the show anyways because he has stated that he is a fan of both Jay-Z and Kanye West. In tune with this fact, Glee has featured 'All the Single Ladies' by Jay-Z's wife Beyonce as well as 'Gold Digger' by Kanye West himself.

Glee can be compared to the White House itself as well. The pulling and tugging of the Republican and Democratic parties is similar to the ever so constant power struggle with Sue Sylvester and Will Schuester. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton has characteristics of Rachel Berry with her talent, determination, and ambition. Obama has also been a supporter of underrepresented populations who fall in between the cracks as part of his campaign motto. This is comparable in Glee to Arty who has been confined to a wheelchair or Kurt who is an openly gay character.

Glee is similar to real life and conclusions can be made as it is analyzed and crossed. Obama praised hope and change in his campaign and the same can be applied to the show and television in general. It is a huge change from the typical television shows that are on the networks and it offers hope for more other shows to spark up with creativity and a unique writing style. Glee has a large fan base that will be quite excited to hear that their favorite stars are making an appearance at the White House.
