Why Should you Use Cheats?

A long time has gone by since I first started playing video games. I used to play video games for hours on end and I even still play them today, just as much as when I was a child. However, there comes a point where a certain game just no longer does the trick. This is where cheat codes come in to play, at least for me. Other than just getting more out of a game, cheat codes are used for a variety of reasons by your everyday people.

I prefer to play a game right through a least once before using any cheat codes or other outside help. Often I will play a game to death before using codes. Here and there you do get a game that is just painstakingly difficult and cheats can do wonders to help you get through it. Before I use cheats, I like to backtrack and explore every possibility in order to avoid using cheats. It may be possible that I just missed something that I need. Although, if that doesn't do the trick, I'll go find me some cheats or a walkthrough. I feel that there is absolutely no shame in using cheat codes, walkthroughs, FAQS or such and they are great for extra replay-ability.

Originally, cheat codes got their start with developers who wanted to quickly modify a game for testing purposes. Often, when this is done during pre-release testing, codes used by the developers will be left in the game. This is sometimes accidental, but more often deliberate and it becomes possible for the player to activate dormant sections of code left by the developers.

In a lot of cases, if cheat codes are available for a certain game, they will be distributed by the developers themselves. This is done because the developers now that not everyone will be able to find the time to finish the game on their own. On top of this, the game will gain replay-ability and many people will play the game for years into the future.

At times, developers will include humorous cheat codes in a game. Some of these codes are absolutely priceless and definitely worth a look. In a lot of games it is possible to make a characters head much larger (always great for a laugh) and in other games it may be possible to make your character really fat or incredibly thin. When placed in the right game, such cheats can have you rolling on the floor with laughter.

There are those out there that frown upon the use of cheat codes and walkthroughs, but there really is nothing wrong with this if you ask me. Millions of gamers are using cheat codes at the same moment you are reading this for a variety of reasons. Even if you are against it, there may be someone else out there who loves nothing more than the cheats that he/she can use in their game.

While there are games that I would never have been able to complete without the use of cheat codes, I will feel a greater sense of accomplishment if I have been able to complete a game without the use of cheats or walkthroughs. Having said that, infinite ammo or health can be quite fun.
