Let us first go back over 80 years when Josef Lamy took his first step into pen manufacturing by buying out the Orthos pen company in Germany. It is an interesting fact that Josef was actually working for another famous pen manufacturer at that time, Parker pens. In the early years Josef Lamy created writing instruments still under the name Orthos, the original company, and then under the name Artus. It was not until the mid 1950s that Josef began manufacturing pens under his own surname Lamy. The Lamy company is still manufacturing writing instruments today from premises in Germany.

So why has Lamy pens remained so popular because of their pen design? Here it is a good idea to introduce the Lamy Safari pen range. The Lamy Safari pen was introduced as a pen style that would attract students. Therefore it was not expensive, and still remains that way today. Lamy pens in the Safari range have been manufactured to be durable yet great looking. These pens are made out ABS plastics and the pen barrel is molded to a triangular shape. This means it is exceptionally easy to grip when performing. What strikes most people about Lamy safari pens is not only the great simple design, but the funky colours they are available in.

Another super pen in the Lamy pens collection is the Lamy 2000. A simple yet elegant design still puts this pen in the spotlight even after forty years. Lamy must have done something right with this pen because little has changed in its design since its conception. You cannot help but feel like you are holding finely engineered missiles with Lamy pens in the 2000 series. Different types of materials are used to make the main body of each pen such as Makralon, exotic woods and highly polished metals.
