The o2 arena is certainly one of the best venues in Dublin and you will find all the biggest acts and artists from around the world performing here. In this article I am going to give you an idea of the diversity this arena offers and what you can expect to see in 2011, there are acts to suit all tastes and plenty of top hotels near o2 for you to really enjoy your night.

First of lets take a quick look at the history of the o2 and how it came to be one of the most popular and impressive arenas in Dublin. At the very beginning the property was a train depot before being transformed into an area of offices and factories. Its claim to fame was having U2 record some of their album “Rattle and Hum” and they also shot some video footage there. It was opened then in 1988 as a concert venue and was known as the “The Point” all through the 90’s. Major events like the MTV awards and the Eurovision were held here not too mention superstars from all over the globe. It has now been renovated and re-named as the o2 where its reputation has grown even stronger.

There are a number of different acts to look forward to in 2011 and the following three I will describe so you can get an idea on just how diverse this arena can be. First up is the pop sensation Justin Bieber, not everyone’s first choice (including myself) but he is easily one of the most famous pop acts in the world at the moment. This will be a popular one amongst young teenagers and he has announced two gigs in March 2011.

The second act will no doubt be familiar to most of you as one of the best comedians over the last number of years and he is Peter Kay. He has had great success with his BAFTA winning series “Phoenix Nights” and his legendary stand up show. This is certainly a comic to see and he has just added some extra dates to his live show in the o2 as the first ones sold out in record time.

Another fantastic act you can expect to see in 2011 is the legendary Eric Clapton who will be performing in May next year. Eric shot to fame in 1970 and proceeded to record some of the best rock songs of all time including “Something, Layla” and many more. Despite his troubles during his career he is still considered one of the best guitarists of all time and his live show is not one to be missed.
