What Happened To Diet Books?

Once upon a time, a good way to get rich in America was to publish a best selling diet book. If your book gave the impression that people could lose lots of weight without putting in any effort or exercise, you were almost guaranteed success.

Nowadays people are a little wiser, and there has not been a diet book near the top of the best seller lists for a while. This is unusual, as historically these types of books are very popular, usually from the latest celebrity sharing their weight loss secrets.

A recent study made interesting reading, showing that the so called baby boomers were the generation who were wildly following the diet craze. Now that this generation are entering their middle age years, their health concerns are generally geared towards other issues rather than their weight. Experts are predicting that the next wave of popular books will be geared towards the total health needs of people, including weight maintenance. This does not mean that there are still people around who will not fall for the latest eat-as-much-as-you-want diet in the future though.

Of course, there will always be a market in America for diet pills, powders and machines, however the public are generally less gullible nowadays when it comes to weight loss claims. A good reason for this is the sheer amount of weight loss information that is available on the internet for anyone to look at. Anybody who has been conned by weight loss products are likely to let the whole world know online, to warn anyone else who may be tempted.

Another good reason is that everyone is fed up of diets and dieting. They have all been tried, from Atkins to high and low protein diets, and we are still fatter than ever. In the long run, the truth is that most diets do not work.
