in the Democratic Presidential debate in October of 2007 in Philadelphia, Tim Russert of NBC News asked Kucinich if he saw a UFO. "This is a serious question," Russert stated to assure him of his intentions.

The Chicago Tribune quotes the candidate's reply as being:
"I did," Kucinich replied.

"And the rest of the account , I didn't, I, it was an unidentified flying object, okay? It's like, it was unidentified. I saw something."

"Now, to answer your question," Kucinich continued, "I'm also going to move my campaign office to Roswell, New Mexico and another one, an extra, to New Hampshire, okay? And also, you have to keep in mind that more over that Jimmy Carter also saw a UFO, and also that more people in this country have seen UFOs than, I think, approve of George Bush's presidency."

The UFO that Kucinich saw just happened to be hovering over actress Shirley MacLaine's house 25 years ago. Ms. MacLaine revealed in her new book that the Ohio congressman had seen a UFO and felt "a connection in his heart and heard directions in his mind." In a Democratic presidential debate in late October, Mr. Kucinich acknowledged seeing something airborne that he couldn't identify and then defused the issue with a joke about opening a campaign office in Roswell, N.M., the capital of unexplained sightings. Ever since this came out in the open, Kucinich has refused to talk about it.

Finally after keeping silent about the UFO sighting for over a quarter of a century, the two individuals who say they were standing next to Mr. Kucinich's on that evening have bravely come forward to explain an event which they say left them convinced that there's intelligent life out there beyond Earth.

One eyewitness to the UFO sighting was Paul Costanzo. He stated, "At no time did I feel afraid, even though I felt very small." He went on to say, "I sensed that I was in the presence of a greater technology and intelligence." Mr. Costanzo said that the UFO sighting, took place in September of 1982 at Ms. MacLaine's former home in Graham, Washington. The home was an extensive property on a ridge above the Puyallup River, with a fantastic view of Mount Rainier.

Mr. Kucinich who was 61 at the time of the sighting, turned down numerous questions that press as asked him. He was the mayor of Cleveland in the late 1970s and had been introduced to Ms. MacLaine through a friend named Bella Abzug. Abzug was a New York congresswoman and feminist rights leader. Shirley MacLaine stated that she rapidly recognize that she and Mr. Kucinich were kindred spirits. Years later Kucinich asked Ms. MacLaine to be the godmother of his daughter.

Shirley MacLaine was renowned for her enthrallment with things supernatural and celestial. On the day of the UFO sighting, she was in Canada, performing on stage. Mr. Costanzo's girlfriend at the time, a model and actress who is now 60 years old, was there when the UFO sighting happened. She spoke after Mr. Costanzo asked her to speak about it, and on stipulation that her name not be published.

The woman stated that the day was strange from its very beginning. For hours, Mr. Kucinich, Mr. Costanzo and his companion noticed a high-pitched sound but could not find where it was coming from. "There was a sense that something extraordinary was happening all day," she said. She and Mr. Costanzo insisted that none of the three eyewitnesses had any alcohol or took any drugs.

When dinner began, Mr. Kucinich spotted a light in the distance, to the left of Mount Rainier. Mr. Costanzo believed it to be a helicopter and made light of it.

Mr. Kucinich then strolled out onto the patio to gaze through the telescope that he had purchased Ms. MacLaine. Mr. Kucinich summoned the other two over to him after staring through the telescope for a minute: "Guys, come on out here and look at this."

Mr. Costanzo and the girl walked out to see Mr. Kucinich, where they took turns looking through the telescope. According to both of them, they saw a hovering light, which quickly broke into two, and then three.

Within five minutes, the lights started to move nearer to them. It became clear that the UFOs were three charcoal-gray, triangular objects, flying in a tight wedge formation. The girl stated that she remembers each triangle having red and green lights running down the edges, with a laser-like red light at the tail. Mr. Costanzo recalls white lights, but no tail.

Mr. Costanzo stated that each triangle was approximately the size of a large van, while his former girlfriend compares it to a "larger Cessna, smaller than a jet certainly." Neither recalls seeing any markings, landing gear, engines, windows or cockpits.

The three UFOs draw near to within 200 yards of them, hovering over the grassy field just beyond their swimming pool. Both witnesses stated that it produced a quiet, throbbing sound and that it was certainly nothing like an airplane engine.

"There was a feeling of wanting to communicate something, but I didn't know what," Mr. Costanzo said.

The three UFOs held steady hovering in place for about a minute, then they raced off, Mr. Costanzo says. "Nothing had landed," he said. "No strange beings had disembarked. No obvious messages were beamed down. When they were completely out of sight, we all looked at each other disbelieving what we had seen."

Mr. Kucinich's asked each person to write down what they had seen as to remember the details better latter. They wrote down their experiences and drew pictures to help remember the UFO sighting. Mr. Kucinich kept the notes, according to Ms. MacLaine, who said he recently promised her that he would try to find them to give her.

The girlfriend stated, "It was proof to me that we're obviously not alone."

The next morning, they saw armed forces helicopters flying around the valley where they had the UFO sighting. And they could still hear the high-pitched sound.

Mr. Kucinich called Ms. MacLaine in Canada to inform her about the UFOs. "He said it was beautiful, serene, and it moved him," stated Ms. MacLaine. "He was not afraid of it, let's put it that way. Seeing something that close and sophisticated and gentle."

Ms. MacLaine said she has seen UFOs from a distance in New Mexico and Peru, but never up close. She was envious. "I'm the one who reports them, but they never make close visitation. What am I doing wrong?"

The three never reported the incident and they shared the experience with very few people. "Unfortunately, people are ridiculed when they say they've had these kinds of experiences, which is why I never came forward with it," stated the girlfriend.

Ms. MacLaine said she talked to Mr. Kucinich on the phone before she included his UFO sighting in her novel called, Sage-ing while Age-ing. "I can handle it," he told her.
