Tips To Curl Straight Hair

Do you spend hours in front of the mirror with your curling iron or flat iron, trying to coax a little curl into your hair? When you finally do manage to get the flowing and romantic locks you want, they seem to fall straight again in hour or so. This can be a frustrating experience.

If you want to add some curl and wave to naturally uncurly hair, you'll need to properly prepare your hair to accept the curl. Start with wet of damp hair and apply a light foaming product designed for curly hair. These products are formulated to assist in the waving process. Gels are not recommended, since they tend to weigh down your tresses. Mousse or other foaming products are lightweight and cling to the hair shaft enough to give it some control.

Apply your styling foam to wet hair, massaging it from root to tip with your fingertips. Allow to dry completely, since your hair has natural bounce when dry, and is also lighter, which helps the curl take hold.

When your hair is dry, divide it into sections to be curled. The larger you want the curl to be, the larger section you can use. Start at the section furthest from your face so you can always see what's left to do. Wrap each section around the barrel of the curling or flat iron, and hold for a few seconds to allow the heat to penetrate. Gently remove the wand without tugging or twisting. If you don't have enough curl, repeat the process for a few more seconds until you have the timing worked out for the curl you'd like.

You can finish off your style with a light finishing spray or hairspray. Make certain you always use products that are designed for curly hair, because they are usually formulated to stand up to the straightening effects of humidity.

Don't over brush or finger play with your hair too much because this will cause the curl to fall out. You can, however, touch up the finishing spray throughout the day, and scrunch it a little with your finger tips. Once you get the hang of it, a little prep work is all that's needed to transform straight hair into soft and buoyant curls.
