Applying makeup can be the most time-consuming ritual a girl can do. It usually takes from half an hour to more than an hour for the perfect look to be achieved. But whatever the occasion may be, women tend to wear a lot of makeup thinking it will do a lot to enhance their look. However, this does not apply for all occasions, especially for everyday wear. For instance, when going to clubs, you can apply flashy make-up that goes well with your outfit, like red lipstick and shimmers. But this does not apply if you're going to a formal gathering. The makeup during these events is generally natural in color, giving emphasis more to your formal or semi formal attire, rather than on your face.

Applying makeup during formal events is quite different than your everyday makeup wear. Formal makeup is supposed to be very simple and natural, not daring and over-the-top. Creating such natural look is fairly easy to do. Just follow these simple tips so you'll look very pretty attending your formal social gathering.

Before you start, examine your face first and determine what is your best feature - eyes or lips. The key to have a formal-looking appearance is to emphasize only one great asset you have and stick with it. But remember that there should be a balance. For instance, if you put emphasis on your eyes, play down the colors on your lips and cheeks so that they won't look like they're fighting for attention.

After you have determined your best feature, then it is about time to apply your foundation. Remember to blend your foundation well so that your face would look more natural. Apply a bronzer as well to your cheekbones to add a hint of color and definition. After that's all done, then you can start applying makeup to your best feature.

You can never go wrong with smoky eyes if you want to highlight this particular part of the body. A good thing about smoky eyes is that it goes with any color of formal attire. Ladies, remember a smoky eye makeup can look very sultry and seductive if done correctly. You only need to be careful on how dark you want your eyes to be as too much black makeup can make you look like a raccoon. Keep in mind that you're going to a formal event, so don't overdo your black or brown eye shadow when going for a formal look with smoky eyes. After you're done, put on a subtle lip color to finish your look.

In contrast, if you want to focus more on your lips, then your eyes must remain simple and discreet. First, apply a lip liner that's a few shades darker than your chosen lipstick color. Let it dry first before applying your lipstick using a lipstick brush. You can also add lip gloss if you want additional shimmer on your lips.

When going to formal events, always remember to keep your makeup at a minimum. Putting on heavy makeup has the tendency to overpower your special occasion dresses, making you horrifying to look at. By the way, if you match your subtle makeup with your dress, then you'll definitely have eyes following you throughout your formal event.
