The Street Parade is the second most attended technoparade in Europe. It takes place in Zurich, Switzerland. Comparable to Berlin's Love Parade, the Street Parade is the largest techno parties in the world and the largest annual event in Zurich. Proceeding along the side of Lake Zurich, it normally occurs on the second Saturday in August.

History & Progress

The first Street Parade (the English name is used in German) took place on September 5, 1992, initiated by student Marek Krynski and officially called the Demonstration for Love, Peace, Liberty, Generosity and Tolerance (German: Demonstration für Liebe, Frieden, Freiheit, Grosszügigkeit und Toleranz). About 1,000 took part in dancing behind two Lovemobiles. In 2008, participants: 820,000 : temp: 24 °C : motto: Friendship.

Organization

Since 1996, the event is organized by the Verein Street Parade (Street Parade Association). Today, the Street Parade has all the character of a popular festival, however legally it is still a political demonstration. This frees the organisation of security costs, among all else that the city takes under its charge.

The Street Parade continues to be one of the safest mass events in the world. This is not just a consequence of the peaceful nature of dance parades, but is also thanks to a widely thought-out prevention concept. Five to ten times more participants at the Love Parade in Berlin had to be medically treated or transported to hospital in the last few years, relative to attendance. The parade begins in the early afternoon at Utoquai and proceeds along its customary route towards Bellevue, Quaibrücke and Bürkliplatz, arriving at Hafendamm Enge. Pre- and post-parade parties are organised in clubs and bars all over the city and special trains and coaches are laid on to allow would-be party people to join the colourful procession of dancers. House and techno music predominate.

The 18th Street Parade is to be held on saturday, 8 of august 2009, kicking off at 1.00 pm and ending at 10.00 pm. About 100 mega- and smaller-scale parties will be held in and around Zürich over the Parade weekend, from friday evening right through to the early hours of monday morning. A dream from birth to majority that the founders probably never thought possible. The dream has come true - and - the dream of the meaning and message of this unique event is far from over. We still have dreams of creating unique experiences with the Street Parade, dreams of making people dance peacefully and without violence to electronic music, dreams of taking the event on to a place where peace, joy, generosity and tolerance reign. And so STILL HAVE A DREAM is a call to believe in the future, and to work on it together.

Route

The 2.4 km-long Street Parade route will be the same as in the previous year. The Street Parade will begin at 3.15 pm at Utoquai in the Zürich neighbourhood of Seefeld, from where it will head around the lakefront via Bellevue, Quaibrücke and Bürkliplatz, arriving at Hafendamm Enge at around 10 pm. The fun will continue at the after-parties at Opernhaus, Bellevue, Bürkliplatz, Rentenanstalt and Limmatquai until midnight. The entire Street Parade route can be easily reached on foot from the city centre or the central station.

Street Parade - this year's anthem

Swiss music producer Jürg Imhoof has come up with this year's anthem, as the musical precursor to the mega-event. The song 'Still have a dream!' is a crossover of house, electro and trance - set harmoniously and produced for a contemporary audience. The song features performances by the exceptional Swiss vocalist Camen and the Splashcats. The anthem (radio-version + 3 Clubmixes) is available in the music shop as well as in all usual digital download shops.

Love Mobiles 2009 - The Heart of the Parade

The heart of the Street Parade is undoubtedly the brightly decorated Love Mobiles. This year, 28 mobile dance floors will be pushing through the mass of people, filling the route with sounds from the whole spectrum of electronic music, played by national and international DJ giants and live acts. The trucks - each with their own individual artistic influences - will be captivating everyone visually, with breath-taking, individual decorations, foam canons and lively dance animations.

The line-up at this year's Street Parade is full of surprises. Apart from superstars such as Paul van Dyk (D), Martin Solveig (F), Steve Angello (SWE), Felix Kröcher (D), Joachim Garraud (F), Lexy & K-Paul (D), Turntablerocker (D), Sebastian Ingrosso (SWE), Aly & Fila (Egypt), the electronic tapestry of sound was enhanced by acoustic instruments, special effects and live vocals. In addition, young, innovative artists contributed new sounds and beats to produce a richly varied musical experience.
