The Sony Ericsson Vivaz has seen several reincarnations in its short lifespan so far. With additions to the range such as the Vivaz Pro which features a Qwerty Keyboard, Sony Ericsson have now released a red version of the original handset.

The unit is comfortable to hold in your hand thanks to its light weight of just 97 grams, along with it's slim line profile at 12.5mm. A 3.2 inch TFT resistive touch screen displays a whopping 16 million colours at 360x640 pixels. In order to view screen content in portrait and landscape orientations, an accelerometer sensor senses when the phone has been tilted and rotated the image on screen accordingly.

MP3 files can be assigned as ringtones in order to customise the phone, and this works alongside vibration to alert users to incoming messages and calls. In order to talk hands free, a speakerphone system is installed, as is a 3.5mm audio jack which accommodates hands free headsets as well as earphones for listening to music.

In order to stay connected on the move, a variety of connection options are available. Class 10 GPRS and EDGE provide the initial means of connecting to networks, whereas HSDPA and HSUPA provide connections in areas with 3G coverage, at 10.2Mbps and 2Mbps respectively. Wi-Fi connectivity allows the handset to harness the power of local wireless internet routers in order to attain a faster internet connection. Bluetooth offers a simple means of sharing files with friends in the same vicinity, whilst a micro USB (v2.0) connection allows the handset to be connected to a computer. This means that files can be transferred and backed up, such as contacts and media files.

On the subject of media files, the Vivaz Red incorporates a media player which accommodates a wide variety of both music and video files. For extra entertainment, a stereo FM radio player is included along with a range of pre-installed and downloadable games. Social networking fans will love some of the application which are included with the Vivaz Red. FaceBook, Twitter, YouTube and Picasa are all available through applications offering direct access to these sites.

The Vivaz Red has a built in digital camera boasting a very impressive 8 mega pixels. This operates at 3264x2448 pixels allowing images of a very high quality to be taken, and this process is simplified by the addition of autofocus and LED flash. It has the ability to shoot video at 24 frames per second as an alternative method of capture.

For storing pictures, videos and music as well as data such as contacts, 75MB of internal storage is available. However, this can be increased if necessary, thanks to the inclusion of a micro SD slot which can accommodate a memory card of up to 16 GB allowing plenty of storage.

The Sony Ericsson Vivaz Red is an impressive all-rounder, and it's appeal is sure to increase further thanks to it's new colour scheme.
