The Nokia N900 Is Packed With Useful Features

Released in August 2009 the Nokia N900 offers a complete smartphone package. Its range of applications range from a high performance mobile phone, 5 megapixel camera, portable media player, and has full web browsing and email capabilities. It also boasts a full QWERTY keyboard which slides out from the back of the handset.

The Nokia N900 measures 110.9x59.8x18mm and weighs in at 181g. The ample 3.5" TFT resistive touchscreen is capable of displaying up to 16 million colours at 800x480 pixels. An accelerometer is built in to the device which senses when it has been tilted and automatically rotates the image on screen so it can be viewed in both portrait and landscape forms. As well as touchscreen navigation, the aforementioned full QWERTY keyboard offers an accurate method of text and number input.

Users are alerted to incoming calls and messages by vibration and ringing with the option to utilize MP3 music files as ringtones. A speakerphone is built in to the handset allowing hands free communication. A 3.5mm audio jack can accommodate hands free kits as well as headphones for listening to music.


Internal memory with this handset is 256MB RAM with a generous 32GB of storage. This can be increased by a further 16GB allowing plenty of storage for media files, contact info and other files. A whole host of connectivity options makes sure users stay connected. Class 32 versions of GPRS and EDGE are present along with HSDPA web connectivity at speeds of up to 10Mbps. HSUPA speeds of up to 2Mbps are available. Bluetooth version 2.1 is installed as standard enabling direct transfer of files and data between compatible Bluetooth devices.

The N900 is equipped with a camera boasting 5MP which operates at a pixel resolution of 2576x1936 pixels. The camera is packed with added features such as Carl Zeiss optics, autofocus, dual LED flash and a video light as well as the increasingly popular Geo-tagging facility. Video can be recorded in WVGA (848x480) quality at a rate of 25 frames per second.

The N900 contains a media player which is capable of playing music and video files in a variety of formats. Music and video files can easily be transferred to and from a computer via the handset's microUSB (v2.0). A TV out is also included so photos and video can be viewed on A TV by simply connecting the phone to a TV. A range of other features is included to keep users entertained, connected and productive. These include Skype and GoogleTalk integration, PDF document viewer and Adobe Flash Player 9.4. Five games are included as well as the option to download more. GPS is included with A-GPS support and Ovi maps.


Maemo 5 is the N900's operating system and processing is carried out by a very capable ARM Cortex A8 600MHz processor.

The Nokia N900 is a very versatile phone which is also aesthetically pleasing, something which some smartphones have not been able to achieve.
