The Nokia X3 Provides Great Media Playback Options

Released in December 2009, the Nokia X3 offers a fresh face lift on the slider phone concept. With a more refined looking handset and a particular focus on music functions, the X3 certainly caters for its target market.

Measuring 240x320x14.1mm the X3 weighs in at just 103g so is comfortable to hold and operate. The 2.2 TFT screen is capable of displaying up to 256,000 colours ensuring bright and vibrant display. Users are alerted to incoming calls and messages via vibration and ringing with the option to download polyphonic ringtones and even utilise MP3 music files as ringtones. A speakerphone is installed as standard allowing hands free communication. A 3.5mm audio jack is provided so hands free kits can be used as well as headphones for listening to music. The concentration on the music theme is apparent through the inclusion of dedicated music keys beside the screen offering shortcuts to music menus and playback options.

The internal memory in the X3 is 46MB but a microSD slot is installed on the handset. This comes with 2GB of storage but can be expanded to up to 16GB providing plenty of storage for media files, contact info and other files.


The X3 comes with a variety of connectivity options. These include GRPS and EDGE, both of which are Class 32 versions. Bluetooth version 2.1 is installed as standard allowing direct transfer of files and data between compatible Bluetooth devices.

The X3 is equipped with a camera boasting 3.2MP which operates at a pixel resolution of 2048x1536 pixels which also provides enhanced pixel focus. It can also shoot video in QCIF at a rate of 15 frames per second. Several formats of music file are supported by the phones media player. These are MP3, WAV, eAAC+ and WMA. As well as music files, the media player also plays video files in MP4, H.263, H.264 and WMV formats. Music and video files can easily be transferred to and from a computer by using the handset's microUSB port.

Added extras include an organiser, voice memo recorder, T9 predictive text input and a variety of included and downloadable games to keep users entertained. A stereo FM radio with RDS is included, furthering the list of music options.


Fans of music will certainly appreciate the range of dedicated features on the X3. It is available in Red/Black and Blue/Silver, so is sure to appeal to those who use their mobiles as a fashion statement, whilst the handset itself won't break the bank.
