The Motorola Flipout has a unique square design with a 2.8 inch display which flips over to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard. It is a compact handset which can easily fit into a pocket or handbag and allows the user to use something which resembles a mini laptop to browse the web, view and send messages and more.

The phone has a 3 megapixel fixed focus camera with 4 times digital zoom capable of capturing JPEG images, and also offers geotagging, a panorama shot and Kodak perfect Touch. Additionally, it also captures video with a recording frame rate of 25 frames per second, and a playback rate of 30 fps respectively through WMV 9 video format.

The Android 2.1 handset comes with the manufacturers Motoblur technology which, similar to other counterparts from other manufacturers, it offers a concise and easy, one app view of all messages, emails, social networking statuses and more for the user to easily respond to any message regardless of its format.

The Flipout offers a choice between its capacitive touch screen or the physical keyboard among the Home, Back and Menu touch-sensitive direction keys also featured. The 2.8 inch display primarily has a landscape orientation, yet the phone has an accelerometer, and can be turned to view from any angle the user wishes. The display is capable of delivering up to 16 million colours to the user also.


The handset has a processor clock speed of 600MHz along with 512 megabytes of random access memory to power between applications and the Motoblur technology linking multiple services to one view. It has 512 megabytes of flash read-only memory additionally, and for storage offers microSD technology making up to 32 gigabytes of storage possible.

Email protocols supported are Exchange ActiveSync for easy access to Exchange email, and IMAP4 and POP3 making it possible to link to the majority of popular email providing services such as Hotmail, Yahoo Mail and Gmail. Messaging capabilities are text and picture or video messaging, along with instant messaging also. The A-GPS and E-Compass meanwhile offer location based services for the user to easily navigate their way around.
