If you've ever tried to use a traditional flat iron on wet hair, you know what kind of a mess it can create. Not only does it damage your hair, it often leaves it frizzy and messy looking.

Applying a heated appliance to your hair when it's wet creates steam, which gets trapped on the hair if the appliance has no ventilation. This trapped steam is what causes problems when using a flat iron on wet hair. Not only can it severely damage your hair and the appliance, it can often be a source of a nasty scald.

Fortunately, there is now a solution to this dilemma. Newer models of flat irons have now been created specifically for use in either wet or dry hair. These irons have vents to allow the steam to to escape and therefore makes it ideal for use on wet hair.

Using a flat iron on wet hair is a fantastic time saver, and often gives you a cleaner and sleeker look. When you are looking for a flat iron that will accommodate wet or damp hair, be sure to read the labels carefully. It should indicate that it's safe for use on wet hair. Before using a flat iron on wet hair, make sure you have properly combed and detangled your hair. If your hair is full and thick, or has a lot of curl, you are better off at least partially drying your hair before using the flat iron. Of-course, you can still use a vented flat iron on dry hair.

Vented flat irons give the consumer more flexibility when it comes to creating a hairstyles that will last and stay fresh.
