The Blackberry 9700 Bold is a no-nonsense handset, the offers exceptional levels of connectivity coupled with effective and efficient functionality. Utilising a 624 MHz processor as well as its own propriety Blackberry operating system, which is version 5.0, this handset provides communication whilst on the move.

The Blackberry 9700 Bold , which was released in November 2009, is an eclectic mix of simplicity of style combined with effective technology. This is evident when reviewing the features contained within the handset such as its 2.4 inch TFT display screen. The screen is able to display up to 65,000 colours and comes with a touch sensitive optical track pad, however it is its full QWERTY keyboard which is located underneath the screen that the Blackberry has become renowned for. The keyboard provides the means to enter data and text in a simple and effective manner.

The handsets internal memory is set at a 256 MB, however many packages include a 2 GB SD card which can be utilised in the available microSD card slot. For further memory expansion, up to 16 GB, the aforementioned card slot can be utilised. Connectivity is a the most important element and probably the most well known facet of the Blackberry phone and within this particular handset, blue tooth and microUSB sit alongside class 10 versions of GPRS and EDGE connections as well as GPS functionality, which provides satellite navigation. Internet access is provided ably by its HSDPA connection, whilst the Wi Fi capabilities of the handset ensure connectivity can be provided via a wide array of available hotspots located around the country.

Although not essentially an entertainment type of phone, this handset does provide an MP4/MP3 player, as well as a variety of games. The player will play all major audio and video file types while if additional games are required, there are additional games available as downloads. An organiser, document editor and a voice memo facility are also included within the package. Image taking capabilities are provided by a 3.15 mega pixel camera, which comes with image stabilisation and auto focus as standard. An LED flash provides illumination where required. For those who prefer the medium of video capture, this camera will also provide that option.

The Blackberry 9700 Bold is in many ways similar to its counterpart the Blackberry Storm2 , both offer effective and useful technology, whilst omitting the features that tend to be gimmicky in nature and therefore tend to add no value to the handset, this may well be the reason for their popularity.
