Much has been written recently about the Google Nexus One, and justifiably so as it is Google's first entry into the mobile phone market. Announced to the world by fanfare, its entrance into the mobile phone market is turning heads. The handset incorporates an impressive level of technology combined with a state of the art operating systems and CPU and pushes the boundaries of mobile phone technology.


The Google Nexus One provides a 3.7 inch AMOLED capacitive touch screen that operates at a pixel screen size of 480 x 800 pixels. The handset comes with touch sensitive controls, trackball navigation and accelerometer and proximity sensors. Internal memory on this handset is 512 MB, with many packages including a 4 GB card. Further memory expansion, up to 32 GB is available by utilising the integrated microSD card slot.


Connectivity with this handset is simple and seamless. Internet access is provided through its own HSDPA connection, which offers speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps, whilst the Wi Fi capabilities of the handset, offer alternative means of access, by utilising available hotspots. In addition class 10 versions of GPRS and EDGE are included as well as micro USB and Bluetooth options. The handset comes with satellite navigation, thanks to its GPS function, which also comes with A-GPS support.



As you would expect with this handset, it utilises the Android operating system, whilst also employing the services of a Qualcomm snapdragon QSD 8250 1 GHz processor. A plethora of Google related features are also included such as Google search, maps and Gmail features as well as Google talk, YouTube and Picasa integration. The handset also provides an active noise cancellation function with dedicated microphone as well as a digital compass, voice memo and dedicated search key facility.


An MP4/MP3 player, which will accommodate all major audio and video file formats, is provided as well as a 5.0 mega pixel camera, which includes auto focus, smile detection and geo-tagging as well as an LED flash. The camera operates at a pixel resolution of 2560 x 1920 pixels and is an effective image capture device. In addition, and as an alternative to still imagery, the camera provides the means to record video at D1 quality, which is 720 x 480 pixels and at a minimum of 20 frames per second. To complete the package, a variety of games are provided, with further games available for download if required.



The HTC Google Nexus One is an intriguing handset, with the benefit of one of the best known worldwide brands behind it. It offers an impressive level of technology coupled with an emphatically appealing styling which incorporates a brown Teflon coating. Its popularity is assured.
