We all have our beloved actors and our favorite movies. It is just an opinion and nobody is more right or more wrong we just all know what we like. Though there are actors that we watch who are amazingly talented and there are others that are pretty boys and then there are the few that fit into both categories. There are also actors who along with being great entertainers they are also great men who use their reputation and notoriety to help the humanity.

Tom Hanks is a extraordinary talent. It's is rather surprising to think that he got his start on a small and kooky TV show called 'Bosom Buddies. Afterward he pulled off such great roles as Andrew Beckett, a gay lawyer who is infected with the AIDS virus and is fired from his conservative law firm because of the fear that they might also contract the disease. His first Academy Award was from that role back in 1993.

His following Academy Award came just the next year making him only the second actor in history to win back-to-back Oscars with Spencer Tracy being the first back in 1937 and 1938. In 1994 Tom Hanks again took home the Oscar for his moving portrayal of Forrest Gump. He also has a list of other good movies but it is too lengthy to cover here.

Brad Pitt has been recognized as a pretty boy since he first captivated us all in 'Thelma and Louise' back in 1991. Then again, Brad hasn't always played the pretty boy roles. Back in 1995 he played a couple of disturbing characters in both of the movies 'Seven' and 'Twelve Monkeys'. While his personal life sometimes seems to overshadow his movie roles the most impressive thing about Brad Pitt is his commitment to humanitarian causes all through the world. He has donated hefty sums of money to help many causes.

After Hurricane Katrina all but wiped out New Orleans, Brad Pitt started the 'Make It Right Foundation' to aid in the redevelopment of the Lower 9th Ward in New Orleans. The foundation builds homes that are inexpensive, sustainable and true to the diverse culture of New Orleans. The aim was to achieve the building of the homes fast so that the residents could return home as soon as possible. That has been his true achievement.

Which reminds me of another great actor who we lost just this past year. Paul Newman passed away on September 26, 2008. During his life he entertained us with countless great movies including the 'Road to Perdition' in 2002, 'The Color Of Money' from 1986 and 'Absence of Malice' from 1981. He also had the leading role in the well-known favorite 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid' from clear back in 1969. Certainly, he was also in many other wonderful movies, too.

But like Brad Pitt, Paul Newman was also known for his philanthropy. In 1982 with a colleague he created a line of food products called 'Newman's Own'. It started with salad dressing and since then it has expanded to include pasta sauce, lemonade, popcorn, salsa, cookies and other items. Newman established a policy that all of the proceeds from Newman's Own, after taxes, would be donated to charity. As of early 2006, the company had donated in excess of $250 million.
