Rhinoplasty, also known as a nose job, is a surgery that is used to reshape and recontour the nose. This surgery cannot only change the size of your nose, but it can also alter the angle of the nose in relation to your face. Plastic surgeons are also able to correct bumps, indentations, and many other defects in the nose.

Surgeons make small incisions on the inside of the nose (to prevent being seen after surgery) in order to access the bone and cartilage that supports the nose. Depending on what type of rhinoplasty surgery is being performed, some bone and cartilage may be removed. After surgery is complete, and the surgeon has successfully reshaped your nose, a splint is placed on the outside of the nose to support the new shape. These surgeries are usually performed with a general or local anesthesia. Rhinoplasty is typically an outpatient procedure.

About two days after surgery, all surgical packing will be removed from the inside of the nose, but you still will be bruised and swollen for approximately 10 to 14 days. You must keep your head elevated for the first few days, and stay away from strenuous activities for at least a few weeks.

Bleeding, infection, nasal blockage, and even skin problems could occur after rhinoplasty surgery. Patients can always expect to see some swelling and bruising around the nose and eyes right after surgery and continuing for at least 10 to 14 days.

Make proper follow-ups with your cosmetic surgeon so that he or she can check your progress and offer any other tips for a complete and healthy recovery. The true success to having rhinoplasty surgery is to always do your research about the procedures you are interested in, learn about the risks and benefits associated with each procedure, ask as many questions to make you feel comfortable, and never jump into something that you are not 100 percent sure about.

If you are interested in a procedure such as rhinoplasty, breast lift, or liposuction, it's important to research each treatment. Find out which procedure and technique is right for you by speaking directly with an experienced plastic surgeon.
