Alex Hammer mailed in the required paperwork to the Commission on Governmental Ethics and Election Practices today to formally declare his candidacy for the 2010 Maine contest for Governor as an Independent candidate.

Alex: "Why am I running for Governor of Maine? I recently published a 208 page book, "This Great State", available to be read for free on the campaign website, http://hammer2010.com, to address this question. I believe that at this critical economic juncture in Maine (and the nation) that we deserve to have each candidate outline in depth the nature of their vision, and, even more importantly, why he or she believes it to be effective and in fact compelling to address the needs of our great state."

"This Great State", subtitled: "A Rigorous Examination of Leadership in Maine Present, Past and Future", also examines Maine's most famous politicians, including:

The Washington Post's critical examination of William Cohen's The Cohen Group
Wind power issues regarding former Governor Angus King
A new examination into Senator Susan Collins, LIHEAP and Iraq
The Legacy of Governor John Baldacci
Bob Tyrer, Susan Collins and William Cohen
My Hero, George Mitchell
