The Oklahoma City Philharmonic has risen from the ashes of the Oklahoma Symphony Orchestra that was founded way back in 1938. The Oklahoma Symphony was conducted most prominently by three men, Ralph Rose in 1938, and later Victor Alessandro and Guy Francis Harrison in the decades to follow. During this period, the Oklahoma Symphony rose in popularity both at the national and international levels, mainly due to radio broadcasts on the Voice of America and the Mutual Radio Network.

Following the disbanding of the orchestra in 1988, Joel Levine, through the co-operation of other city leaders and funds from five Oklahoma-based corporations, set up the Oklahoma City Philharmonic. Levine is now the conductor and music director of the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, leading it to become the largest organization of performing arts in the State of Oklahoma.

The Oklahoma City Philharmonic performs from September to May, and features the Discovery Family Concert Series and the Classical and Pops series. Holiday concerts and outreach concerts are also conducted. Through its performances, the OKC Philharmonic, that celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2008, serves to create a positive influence in the community by enhancing its cultural life and encouraging the appreciation for orchestral music, thereby contributing to the community's growth and betterment through cooperation with other agencies of art.

The Oklahoma City Orchestra League's volunteers support the Oklahoma City Philharmonic financially, and also conduct educational outreach programs. The OKC Philharmonic has a host of programs lined up for the 2009-2010 seasons that would take the citizens of Oklahoma City on a great musical journey. Guests of OKC hotels who happen to be in the city at the time can also check out these concerts (advance booking required) held by the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, chiefly at the Civic Center Music Hall in OKC.

The Oklahoma City Philharmonic is the largest performing arts organization in the State of Oklahoma. OKC Hotels - The Bricktown Hotel and Convention Center is one of the finest hotels of OKC.
