Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel
I can't wait to take my daughter to see this movie. It looks absolutely adorable! We haven't seen the first one, so I think I'll rent it a day before we see the sequel. I figured it would be a great way to test out whether or not she will be able to sit through the whole film! This movie seems to be packed with music, dancing and cute little creatures with tiny voices. It's appropriate for children and a great way to share quality time this holiday weekend. What more could a five-year-old ask for?

It's Complicated
This movie looks absolutely fabulous! Meryl Streep becomes "the other woman" when she gets involved again with her ex-husband played by Alec Baldwin. The movie also stars Steve Martin who is great in every movie he's in. There is talk that this comedy is Oscar-worthy. This comedy seems to be filled with hilarious entertainment mixed with drama and starring a cast full of actors we know and love!

Up In the Air
This is one of those movies that you thought was already released because of all the publicity it's receiving. Any movie starring George Clooney is about to be plastered all over the television and Internet. He's always taking on unique roles such as his characters in O' Brother, Where Art Thou? and The Men Who Stare at Goats. He seems to be doing it again as the professional hired by companies to fire their unwanted employees. Clooney's character is also obsessed with collecting frequent flyer miles so this is probably why we always see him running for his flight on the trailers.

Sherlock Holmes
I haven't heard very much about this upcoming movie but it stars Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock Holmes and Jude Law as Watson and was directed by Guy Ritchie. Hopefully I'm wrong, but this doesn't look that interesting and I don't think I'll even be checking out this flick on DVD. If you're a huge Sherlock Holmes fan, this may be for you. The story focuses on the two working to unravel a case to prevent the destruction of Britain.

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassis
If you are a Heath Ledger fan, you'll be happy to know that you can see him one more time on the big screen for this fantasy film. Christopher Plummer is Dr. Parnassis who invites the people of his audience to enter an amazing world through a magic mirror. Parnassis made a deal with the devil to be able to have this gift and the people around him are at risk of paying the price! Heath Ledger plays a mysterious stranger. After Ledger passed away half way through the making of the film, Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell shared his role as his "physically transformed versions". This should be interesting to say the least and it's a great way to remember Heath Ledger and his awesome acting ability.

Police, Adjective
I haven't heard of this foreign drama at all until I searched for new releases. It's about a police officer's choice to let a kid off the hook for offering hashish to another person. I'm not quite sure how this will equal two hours of entertainment but it sure sounds unique. Michael Phillips of The Chicago Tribune claims that the film is slow moving and slightly uneventful but you never know unless you give it a shot.

The first three films I listed and possibly The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassis look to be interesting movies to check out this weekend at the theater. Let's take a look at what movies will be released to a video store near you!

All About Steve starring Sandra Bullock, Bradley Cooper and Thomas Hayden Church.

(500) Days of Summer starring Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

District Nine starring Sharlto Copley, Jason Cope and David James.

Extract starring Jason Bateman, Mila Kunis and Ben Affleck.

There's an awesome lineup of movies on Dish Network this week. I picked some of my favorites but there is even more to choose from when you have America's Everything Package! The schedule is based on Eastern Standard Time. Are you thinking of venturing out to the theater this holiday weekend? There are a few decent movies coming out on Friday and plenty more to watch with the premium channels on Dish Network.
