Most women absolutely love perfumes. Many have their favorite scent from the famous Chanel Number 5 to Est'e Lauder's Beyond Paradise or Calvin Klein's Euphoria. There are some perfumes that are meant for day wear while others are meant for the evening or night. But despite all the varieties and endless concoctions of scents on the market, sometimes women are baffled by the fact that a perfume smells much different on them than it did in the bottle. Or how it smelled on a friend. The question is why? Follow along as we give you a few answers to help you to understand this strange phenomena and how you can choose a fragrance that is all your own.

First of all, it's important to remember that many of these fragrances are very delicate in nature and in composition. It's very important that you keep your perfumes in a cool, dark location once you take it home and you open the bottle. Fragrances can be easily affected by extreme temperatures or by sunlight. Sunlight and high temperature can easily upset the chemical balance of your perfume and change or even ruin the original smell, without you realizing it.

The next thing you need to understand is that each persons skin is unique. Everyone's natural oils and acids, that they have on their skin normally, will mix with and affect the chemical composition of a perfume. As a result, the scent will be different for each person. On most occasions the changes will be very subtle and may not even be noticeable. But in some cases the mixture can change the smell of a perfume a great deal. That's when a woman wonders why the perfume doesn't smell the same as it does in the bottle or on their friend. There isn't much you can do unless some of the other factors we talk about come in to play and you can make a change.

Another common problem is that a favorite perfume doesn't seem to have the same smell as it did previously. Quite often, this change is due to a change in a person's body chemistry that can be due to a number of natural factors. A change in diet for example, can change the composition of the acids and oils on your skin. A perfumes smell can actually be intensified if a person's diet changes to contain a lot of spices or is high in fat. Changing to a diet that contains a lot more onions or garlic can also cause a change in your skin oils and how your fragrance reacts to your skin. Even a simple case of having dryer skin than you normally have can change who scent reacts. Your dryer skin will actually absorb more of the essential oils within the fragrance and leave behind a different chemical composition and a different scent.

Puberty for young women, a pregnancy or life changes his menopause can cause hormonal changes in the body that can again affect our fragrance mixes with your skin. Young women especially can go through a lot of hormonal changes and can find it quite difficult to find a perfume that seems to stay consistently the same.

You may go through some of these things from time to time and you can understand how they can affect your body chemistry in your skin. These aren't all necessarily life-threatening problems, but they can cause a problem with your favorite scent. Knowing how to offset these things, such in making sure your skin is lubricated before you put on your perfume on, or before you even try a new perfume in the first place, can go a long way to enjoying the many, many perfumes that are in the marketplace. Just remember that you are a unique individual, and scent that you end up with we'll also be unique and all your own.
