All skin types are not the same. When were born our skin is usually perfect: smooth, close textured, moist, plump and with enough oil to protect it without causing problems. As we get older the conditions in which we live and our age begin to change the texture of our skin so it's vital that we know how to care for our own individual skin type and get it as close as possible to our baby skin.

Normal Skin:

Normal skin is very rare. It is smooth and soft with no open pores, spot, veins, flakes or blackheads showing and is fine in texture. If you pressed a tissue to the face first thing in the morning there will be a slight trace of oil. If you do have this skin type you are one of the lucky ones and should totally protect it with tender loving care. By using light gentle products and rich moisturisers you can protect it from the harshness of winds, the sun and air conditioning.

Oily Skin:

If a tissue is presses to the face first thing in the morning there would be a significant amount of oil showing. The texture is course with large pores and prone to blackheads and spots, this is because the pores get blocked with excess oil (sebum). However, the bonus of having oily skin is that you get less wrinkles and your skin gets less oily as you get older.

It is a big mistake to use soaps, harsh cleansers and astringents (toners) that contain alcohol, these tend to stimulate the skin, produce more oil and in the long run make the situation worse. Use an oil free moisturizer, except on areas that need a lot of moisture which is around the eyes, throat and lips. This skin type benefits from regular use of masks and steaming. This helps to unblock pores which causes blackheads.

Combination Skin:

This is a combination of normal/dry and oily skin. Press a tissue on your face first thing in the morning if there is a greasy "T" shape on the tissue this would indicate combination skin. There are pimple on the forehead and chin and here are often small greasy areas on the jaw line. This programme for this skin type has to be oily/normal or oily/dry

Dry Skin:

Dry skin is delicate, lines easily and isfine textured. If you have this skin type don't use soap and water as it makes your skin feel tight like it will crack! All masks and steams have to be used with great care as this skin type is usually prone to veins and broken capillaries. Use gentle and rich in moisture products, especially around the eyes, throat and lips that tend to age first.

Skin Beauty can be obtained, if you know your skin type and use the correct skin care line for your individual skin type you will achieve great results. However, it is skin care is only one part of beautiful skin a healthy diet, exercise and plenty of water is also vital in your outcome. A good sunscreen daily will prevent ageing and sun damage.
