First: detoxify. Antioxidants can be derived from certain foods. Examples of these foods are green leafy vegetables, fresh fruits, beans, and berries. This includes vitamins A, C, and E which are very potent antioxidants. They feed on free-radicals and thus help in reversing the aging process.

Second: do rehydration. Drink at least eight 8-oz. glasses of water a day. Dehydration is one of the major causes of wrinkles and sagging, and may be induced by exposure to the sun, illness, fatigue and stress. This may also be induced by drinking alcohol, so it is necessary to limit, if not avoid, drinking alcoholic beverages. The mechanism behind dehydration causing wrinkles is a two-step process. At the start, dehydration induces puffiness, especially around the eye area. This is due to retention of fluid from the body's reserves, which is the body's normal response when it is depleted of water. After the puffiness stage follows the wrinkling and sagging.

Third: protect. Use any measure available to protect your skin. Utilize umbrellas, shades, and even sunscreen with high SPF levels. It is necessary to note that SPF levels are designed for specific lengths of exposure. Some makeup items even contain SPF for added protection. This is in order to counter the sun's ultraviolet rays which are highly harmful to the skin. It can cause dehydration and direct skin damage, even skin cancer. Look for a sunscreen that is dermatologically tested and natural-based. In such way allergic reactions due to chemical-based products are avoided.


Fourth: rejuvenate. There are numerous anti-aging wrinkle creams available in the market today. Be cautious in the selection of the right product - it has to be safe and effective. Most products which are available are, sad to note, ineffective. It pays to look circumspectly for products which are natural-based, dermatologically-tested, and encourages the production of collagen and elastin, the proteins responsible for younger looking skin. Do not choose products that claim to have synthetic collagen - it is a fallacy. Collagen cannot be absorbed by simple topical application. The product should specify that it induces collagen production, NOT that it contains collagen. A product that is highly recommended in wrinkle reduction is Coenzyme Q10. It contains a nano-emulsion form of the coenzyme, allowing it to penetrate deeply into the skin, and then encourage collagen and elastin production.

Fifth: go for natural-based, unscented products. A lot of chemicals and substances cause skin irritation. So it is better to go through the list of ingredients in a certain product and look for signs of them. Some examples of harmful ingredients are mineral oil, fragrances, dioxane, parabens and alcohol. Most fragrances are alcohol-based, so it is better to be cautious against such products. Do not get fooled by fresh floral scents!


Sixth: don't miss the E. Vitamin E is essential in achieving beautiful skin. It is an antioxidant, and just as stated above, antioxidants combat the damaging effects of free radicals.
