The approach that these methods take is to cleanse the body of the effects of a highly processed diet and eliminate the toxins that may be preventing us from losing weight. Fasting is certainly not a new idea and many cultures have used fasting as a spiritual practice. The idea is that the body is rid of all the toxins which has a benefit for the body and the mind. The weight loss that is experienced with fasting has just been seen as a side effect by those using the technique for spiritual reasons.
