Cosmetic Surgery is now more popular than ever with reality TV shows such as extreme makeover increasing public awareness about cosmetic surgery and plastic surgery procedures. Although in the past cosmetic surgery was only available to the rich and famous, it is now becoming popular amongst the general public.
The Medic8 guide to Cosmetic Surgery aims to provide a comprehensive non-biased overview of cosmetic and plastic surgery procedures, the benefits, the risks involved and what you could expect from the cosmetic surgery procedure that you are interested in.
What is Cosmetic Surgery?
Cosmetic Surgery involves having a surgical procedure carried out by a plastic/cosmetic surgeon to improve the "look" of a particular part of your body. Cosmetic surgery can not only improve physical appearance but it can also have emotional and psychological effects. Procedures such as breast enlargement or a facelift could have a great influence on an individual's self esteem and confidence levels.
There are a lot of advantages of plastic surgery but mainly this type of surgery is used to enhance beauty. Women are more likely to undergo plastic surgery but some males also undergo this medical procedure if they think they need to have some major changes in their body.
Your surgeon may advise you to follow a pre- Cosmetic Surgery regime beforehand. This could include stopping smoking – if you are a smoker as this slows down the healing process and following a diet and exercise plan.
You may have to take time off work so make sure you arrange that with your employer.
If you are having a general anaesthetic then you will have been advised beforehand about eating and drinking before surgery. In general, the advice is to have your last meal or drink 6 hours before your surgery. If you are taking any medications prescribed by your GP then still take them as normal which includes the day of your procedure. However, check with your surgeon beforehand. Some people are born with physical defects that have plagued them since birth and surgery can finally give them a shot at a normal life.
If you are taking any medication, such as nutritional supplements, then you may have to stop taking these before surgery. There is the risk of them reacting with the anaesthetic and any drugs used during or after the Cosmetic Surgery.
Midas Cosmetic Surgery or "Aesthetic Surgery' is performed to reshape normal structures of the body. It may be to correct a minor deformity of a specific body part one is not happy about or to overcome the effects of aging, and look younger. Thus Cosmetic Surgery offers people a chance to enhance their appearance and self-esteem, leading to better lifestyle and productivity.
