Climate change is Mother natures way of crying out for help. It is an issue that requires attention immediately. We need global leaders prepared to race people (and our precious taxes) towards sustainable energy supplies and living systems.

Renewable energy is no less consistent than energy generated from more conventional sources and using it does not mean that you have to change your way of life or your appliances. Using renewable energy can be as easy as using the sun for drying clothes or can represent taking advantage of more refined renewable technologies, such as photovoltaic (PV) cell systems, which use the sun's heat and light to produce energy, wind turbines or ground source heat pumps which extract energy from underground. Renewable Energy is energy that flows naturally and repeatedly in the environment. It is an energy that is replaced as quickly as it is used.

Clean energy is considered a very important part of the solution for climate change. Its share (including large hydro and biomass) in global primary energy is projected to be between 8% and 17% possibly increasing to above 61% in 2100. Renewable energy is not subject to sharp price changes because it comes from sources such as sunshine, flowing water, wind, and biological waste, all of which are free. Renewable energy is produced from sources that are replenished as they are worn, such as the wind, water flowing in streams, rivers and seas, the sun and sustainable grown crops.

Clean energy is the way further and the cost savings are considerable. Renewable energy is an area of major investment and importance for future generations. It is job creating, sustainable, economic, convenient and nonviolent. It's also among the world's fastest growing industries, with wind power growing at a phenomenal 29.7 per cent per annum, solar by 21.6 per cent per annum and $20 billion of new investment in renewable energy in 2005-06.

Solar energy is also catching up. Solar plays have been given a great deal of attention recently, and valuations have skyrocketed. Solar and wind energy, in particular, hold much promises. But the absolute value of all renewable energy sources is that we can use them, and then use them again. Solar hot water panels should be considered as an option. From the ground they resemble a skylight window and can provide around 40% of an average family's annual hot water requirements.

In order to control these sources and reduce our dependency on limited reserves of oil, coal and gas, global leaders need to understand the scientific principles of renewable energy technology and have the management skills to ensure that the carbon emission reduction targets are met. The skill to develop technology that harnesses energy from wind, solar, water, and other renewable resources defines future generations of technology. Green Certificates contribute to an improved, more sustainable environment - for the good of today and for the benefit of future generations.
