On each occasion, when the Christmas season arrives, we become busy looking for guides and inspirations concerning what to give as appropriate Christmas gifts.

There is the expectation of getting the most popular Christmas gifts while as the same time contending to be different from what the other people are going for.

Albeit Christmas has been seriously commercialized; nonetheless we may still see the constituent of generosity or expression of gratitude in a "touchable" (or tangible if you like) way through Christmas gifts.

Despite the fact that we may be busy searching for Christmas gifts, we may not want to give the impression to our children or to the world at large that Christmas is wholly all about Christmas gifts or that the best things are obtainable only as Christmas gifts.

Amidst all the anticipation and fun of Christmas, and in the midst of festivity, one ought not lose sight of the fact that the 1st Christmas was the day when God became flesh and dwells physically amongst men - God proclaimed His goodwill towards men.
"Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel," which is translated, "God with us." Matthew 1:23
"And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins." Matthew 1:21

Hence children or adults should be made to appreciate that there is more to Christmas than just gifts. One should always value Christmas even if there were no Christmas gifts to have that year.

As the greatest gifts that we may have is the Gift of eternal life as encapsulated in John 3:16 - For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.

Having said that, it does not mean that we should withhold gifts during Christmas - just so that the meaning of Christmas is made clear and that is not ALL about Christmas presents.

It is indeed fun to give and receive gifts, provided that it does not put a strain on the budget for the giver. Many a times, it is not so much of the cost of the gifts but the thoughts behind it that make the most impact.
