Botox, scientifically known as Botulinum toxin, is an organic compound processed from neurotoxin which are amino acids. It is a protein that skews the function of the nervous system. This sounds dangerous, but Botox was approved as a cosmetic tool by the Food and Drug Administration in 2002. Botox is used to temporarily reduce wrinkles in undesired areas, and produces smoother skin. Botox is not permanent and patients have the procedure done several times over a period of time to keep their wrinkles in check.
Wrinkles form for a variety of reasons. Some of these include a decrease in collagen, a loss of hormones, and even muscle contractions. Over the years, certain muscles in the body have contracted so many times that they cause the skin to fold or furrow which causes wrinkles. This is a natural part of the aging body, and all persons deal with this change.
Botox is directly injected into the muscle where the unwanted wrinkles form. This organic compound then begins to block nerve impulses that are naturally sent to the muscle. This then decreases the muscle activity that normally causes wrinkles in the injected area. As stated previously, Botox treatments are not a permanent solution, and normally only last for a short period of time.

Studies have shown that Botox may help with different pain disorders including headaches. Botox has grown in popularity over the last several years, and has become a stereotype for how to remain beautiful after aging. There is nothing wrong with wanting to look better, but everyone should keep in mind that beauty is relative. However, if you have done your research and feel Botox is the best option for you, then there should be no reason to go through with the procedure. Any one considering Botox treatment should do their research on the compound and any side effects it may have.
