The subject material was uncompromising, and I was left a little stunned how well the director got the audience on the main personality's side. Our hero as time pressed on, pulled your strings into despairingly desiring him to be successful, turning Hollywood's unending moral concept into a subjective approach, and hence it's audience view on morality on it's head

The views of women and their treatment is a little shocking for mainstream Hollywood, and I might understand instantly why the film did not stand a chance of winning an Oscar for best actor for Terence Howard, however I accepted why it won best song, with the full weight of MTV behind it, the expletives that is so common with many contemporary songs takes on a deeper meaning here ; you are straight away transported into his world, dealing with drugs, and the various troubles he is facing in his life, you wish for our protagonist to stop his way of life, he is saying he knows it is wrong, and doesn't want to do it forever, your heart goes out to him in his desperation to get out of the life he has found himself in, it is unpleasant and worried to observe, but it is hypnotizing viewing however.
