Are Pshychological Thriller Movies Gone?

There is nothing more exciting than wrapping your mind around a hard hitting
psychological thriller where each scene only seems to get better! Movies like
sixth sense and seven seemingly don't come around as much as they used to and
when they do, they don't live up to comparisons of the past.

There is something very primal about psychological movies that 'push the
envelope' of ones mind in such a way that it cannot be replicated except for
extremely unique real life occurences.

Like a scar that is burned into our subconscious, these movies (ie. The Shining)
make our brains work harder to conceive and as a result, make for a much more
enriching movie experience overall!

However, if you were to take a compilation of the last ten years worth of movies
and any of the eighties or even nineties thrillers; you would more than likely
come away wondering where are all the thrillers in the last decade?

In todays advanced cinema, the computer generated aspects of film making have
overshadowed the basic storyline in such a way that many big production
companies have leaned on these technological aspects too much.

As a result, you are seeing less substantive storylines and much more visual
based movies where nothing is impossible. As with practically everything, it
stands to logic that these grassroots concepts will eventually resurface.

Just as crazy names for babies have dominated the last ten years and certain
fashions go out of style, these stylistic movies will resume in the near future
but just not now.

We are in a world of reality based viewing that is really good and bad! It
takes a lot of the fantasy out of our viewing and puts what we see everyday
in real life into our living rooms.

This has obviously been overdone to the 'nineteenth degree' but we cannot deny
that this style of entertainment has made many inroads and is probably here to
stay for the meantime.

Whether writers are not focusing on these style of films, or the major studios
are overlooking this powerful genre is anyone's guess. However we dissect, the
lack of quantity, keeping our eyes and ears pressed against the proverbial
entertainment walls is the only way to uncover these near extinct movies.

For now, we can review the old movies that pounded our hearts and only wait to
see a true resurgence of the psychological thriller!
