A personal choice of mine before attending a renaissance festival is to purchase my costume online than go for a designer and have one custom-made for me. And in my many years of experience, I know that this has worked out for many people too.

And knowing how much designers charge for their services, the cost of one design would be almost the same as a dress with accessories or even two.
There's also the fact that online medieval stores have more knowledge of medieval clothes. Online medieval stores sell clothes that are not only well-designed but are well-researched as well. Last but not least, is the fact that medieval stores could offer me suggestions. Because they are familiar with medieval clothes and fashion, they know what goes with which. Aside from clothes, there are options like shoes, accessories, everything that could possibly make your costumes look authentic; all of which are under the same store. So you don't have to go out looking for a nice looking pair of shoes or search through costume shops or accessory shops for the perfect necklace to match because they have everything under the same roof!
