A Closer Look at the LG GD510 Pop Black

In an age when consumers want the smallest phone they can, but one laden with features, LG have made a wise move in spicing up their ever popular handset the Cookie and releasing the GD510 Pop Black, which bravely attempts to achieve the above, but does it succeed?

The LG GD510 Pop is certainly smaller than the cookie, but more on that later on, what impresses about this handset is its excellent user interface. LG have a interface they normally fit to their high end mobile handsets named the "S Class Touch". They have taken the decision to now incorporate this interface on the mid ranged Pop, with excellent results. As you would expect, the menus have a real wow factor with colourful widgets and a very quick and sensitive response to a slight touch on the resistive touch screen. Animation and scrolling is smooth and fluid. The handset also features 3 alternating homescreens. The first screen is based around your widgets, allowing you to arrange these as you please, the second screen is based around your contact list. Finally you will find the "LiveSquare" Screen, which is basically where all your recent communications are logged. Add all of these features with the inevitable Social Networking features and you have a handset which is truly going to appeal to a huge chunk of mobile users.

I mentioned earlier about the size of this device and their have been definite improvemnts. The GD510 Pop weighs in at a featherweight 87 grammes and measures just 97.8 x 49.5 x 11.2. Despite the compactness of its frame, LG have still manage to squeeze in a 3" TFT resistive touchscreen with a display resolution of 240 x 400 pixels. This is a good quality screen which appears vibrant thanks to the 256k colours displayed. When not in use this screen takes on a mirrored effect which adds to the aesthetic appeal of the phone. A single multi use button can be found at the bottom right hand side of the unit, this is used to start and end calls, access menus etc. The clever way LG have placed this in a non central position again adds to the neat and unusual look of this phone.

A neat media player is built in to the unit giving a host of options including an attractive picture gallery and an audio player which displays album covers. The customary built in camera is however a fairly basic affair, offering a reasonable 3 million pixel resolution but sadly lacking in a flash or autofocus.

The LG GD510 Pop Black looks set to pick up where the best selling Cookie left off. The eye catching looks are what will first grab your attention, but when you delve deeper you can see that with its excellent interface and outstanding battery life, the Pop is certainly more than just a pretty face.
