6 Misconceptions about Tanning and Sun Damages

Here are six of the most common misconceptions about sun bathing and tanning:

1.) Most people think that moisturizer can prevent the skin from peeling after sun bathing. This is definitely not true. Although it can hydrate your skin, burned skin will peel off no matter what you do. However, you still need to use moisturizer to make your skin look gorgeous even while peeling.

2.) Some people use a lot of moisturizer to prevent sun damages, but this is also not true. Moisturizer will only hydrate your skin, and it does not have ingredients that will protect your skin from harmful UV rays.

3.) Clouds can never protect you from the sun. Although the clouds can filter a small amount of UV ray, it is still not enough to stay protected while walking under the sun during a cloudy day. If you want to stay protected, you need to apply sun block with SPF protection whenever you are out for a walk.

4.) Being submerge underwater doesn’t protect your skin from being damaged or tanned. The heat of the sun is caused by infrared rays and not by UV rays and water doesn’t have the capability to filter infrared rays. Another factor that can cause skin damage is the fact that water can wash off your sun block. It is advised that you reapply sun block every hour to prevent further damages to your skin.


5.) Umbrellas don’t provide complete protection from UV rays. Although using this will help you filter a small amount of UV ray, it doesn’t prevent the harmful rays from reaching your fragile skin. You still need to use sun block with SPF protection whenever you are going out.

6.) Using baby oil or mineral oil can’t accelerate tanning. A lot of people think that using these substances will help them tan faster, but baby oil and mineral oil will only accelerate the damages received by your skin.
