For comic book collectors who have been out of the comic scene for a little while, I thought I would recommend three writers to look for. These may be familiar to you, or they might be entirely new. It kind of depends on how long you've been out of the loop. I'm not even saying these are the best writers or they are the ones I like the best. But these are writers who are getting buzz for what they are doing at the moment.

1. Brian Michael Bendis: This guy has won five Eisner Awards. The Bendis project with the most buzz is his work on Secret War, a Marvel mini-series involving a cross-section of the less-powered Marvel heroes and what they did in Latveria. Bendis is also in charge of the Spider-Woman comic book launch.

2.Brad Meltzer: No comic event was talked about more in 2004 than Brad Meltzer's Identity Crisis. A DC Comics mini-series involving most of the core members of the JLA, Identity Crisis got the blogs worked up that year. When Elongated Man's wife dies, an old secret is revealed. Longtime buffoon, Dr. Light, raped Sue Dibny back in the 80's. When half the JLA members joined in on a conspiracy to alter Light's mind, it was only a matter of time before the DC universe would be in crisis once again. Though Metzer was a relative no-name before Identity Crisis, he wrote several series, among them Green Arrow. He's also a popular novelist.

3. Mark Millar: Probably best known for his work on The Authority a few years ago, Mark Millar is currently working on Marvel's Fantastic Four. Previously, he had written Ultimate X-Men and Ultimate Fantastic Four, as well as Superman: Red Son. Check out Millar's earlier work on the Ultimate version of Earth's Mightiest Heroes. I have quite enjoyed it so far.

Ray T. Lewis was born in Sherman, Texas in 1967. He was raised by his mother, who worked two jobs so that he would have plenty to eat. She wasn't home much, so Lewis spent a lot of time reading to keep himself occupied while his mom was at work.

Lewis graduated from Sherman High School in 1985, and he earned his Literature degree from the University of North Texas in 1990. He's been writing since high school.

Lewis is married and has two beautiful daughters, twins, who are 10 years old. He also has a pet bulldog named Bruiser.
