With each season comes, what is deemed to be, a novel idea of keeping healthy. For instance in January, the month after the Xmas season it's all about weight loss and joining the gym, or perhaps the New Year's resolutions to give up smoking or to make more of an effort to exercise.

Giving things up is hard enough task as the addiction has already set in. They say that in order to gain an addiction, to turn into habit you must undertake this task continuously for up to 30 times, then you will have engraved this in your brain and therefore formed a habit. So in order to loose the habit surely you must try to do the opposite for the same amount of time in order to reverse this?

Well the best thing to do is to form new habits to break old ones! How many times have we joined the gym only to loose face 2 months into the membership, we've paid 12 months for the membership and in the process lost a lot of money because we simply can't be bothered to go. All the effort it takes to pack your gym kit, walk, drive or cycle to the gym, do your workout, shower and then travel back home again. After a hard day at work this does not sound like and attractive prospect, so instead we choose to not for this habit as it's far too much hard work.

There is an alternative to the exhausting prospect of such a strenuous task, craft making!

Look around the house, does it look dull and dreary? Well that's great, make a list of things you would like to see or have and set about planning on how to create them. So much choice is available, the best thing to do is to start with one room first and then work your way around the house. So something as simple as sewing, if this exercise is done each continuously each day over 30 times then you have gained yourself a new habit, but the beauty of this habit is indeed beauty and creation. This particular form of habit also helps to keep the hands and fingers busy not to mention the mind, so when you feel like having a cigarette your mind will be too busy to concentrate on the craving and your hands and fingers will be too busy with the task at hand so to speak!
