Who is an ideal candidate for rhinoplasty, better known as a "nose job?" There are several factors that make up the ideal candidate for this plastic surgery procedure. But before going into what those factors may be, perhaps a couple of questions should be answered about this particular cosmetic surgery procedure.

What is rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is a plastic surgery procedure that surgically alters the nose. This might be done to change or improve the shape of the nose, or to improve the function of the nose. Sometimes rhinoplasty is performed to correct certain breathing problems, trauma or birth defects. On normal noses, plastic surgeons perform rhinoplasty to improve the appearance and/or shape of the nose. You may have your nose shortened, make it smaller or larger, change the tip, the nostrils or the bridge, if you so desire.

Is rhinoplasty right for you?

Here are some of the most important qualifications of being considered an ideal candidate for a nose job:
- You should have reasonable expectations of what rhinoplasty can do.

- You should be in good physical, mental and emotional health.
- You should be dissatisfied or unhappy with your nose as is, before cosmetic surgery.
- Your nose is asymmetrical, drooping, misshapen, too large or otherwise aesthetically displeasing--all which can be corrected with rhinoplasty.

Although this isn't a hard and fast rule, if you are not at least in your twenties, your cosmetic surgeon might not consider you an ideal candidate for a nose job, simply because your face is not completely and fully developed until you are in your early to mid-twenties.

Another factor that should be taken into consideration before having rhinoplasty or any other type of plastic surgery is your emotional wellness. If you are depressed, and believe that getting plastic surgery such as a nose job will solve all of your problems and make you happy--you are not a good candidate for rhinoplasty.

No plastic surgery procedure can solve all of your problems or magically lift you out of depression and into a state of happiness. If you have those expectations, then you are a poor candidate for the procedure. If you are a good candidate for rhinoplasty, and are unhappy with your nose, a plastic surgeon can give you the nose you have always wanted.

Plastic surgery performed by an experienced rhinoplasty surgeon can be a life-changing experience. A Connecticut plastic surgeon can use procedures such as nose job surgery to produce dramatic yet natural-looking results.
