The I/O Device Error is a problem you might encounter when your PC is unable to deal with a regular operation; it involves an input or output operation on the driver you are trying to access. This problem might occur due to several reasons. Let's see some of the most common factors that attribute to the error.
• If you are trying to use a CD or DVD and Windows are using already a transfer mode, then you will get the I/O Device Error
• Initialization Failure of hardware or a non working condition of the particular hardware you intend to use can also lead to this error
• If you are running non updated or incompatible drivers for the device or hardware you want to use you will also get this error message.
• Sometimes a faulty cable or some network configuration issues or connectivity issues can also lead to I/O Device Error.
One of the most common solutions to resolve this issue is to change the settings and properties of the device that shows this error message, changing the transfer mode in the IDE.

You will have to go to Computer management and check the device manager. Check the IDE/ATAPI controllers and select Properties at the CD/DVD drive. Go to Advanced Settings and then check the option ‘PIO only' at the transfer mode tab.
Usually the DVD/CD drives are located there, thus, this should solve the problem. If, though, your problem is still not resolved, try to repeat the same process for all IDE channels, until you find which one is the proper.
In any case, you should check the Device Manager tab and make sure that all devices are working properly. If there is any faulty device or driver, the Device manager will show an error message. Double clicking on the device will you an idea of where the problem might be, and what is exactly the problem that your devices are experiencing. In most cases, Windows suggest a method of solving the issue. Try to follow it, or look online for a few additional pieces of information if necessary.
